Learn how to play the Recipe Game

General Rule:

On each recipe card, there is a list of ingredients that need to be collected in order to complete the recipe. Beside the ingredients are numbers in brackets. These numbers indicate how many cards you will need to  complete that specific ingredient.  For example, a recipe that calls for ‘2 Eggs’ will have a (1) beside the ingredient, which means you cannot use two ‘1 Egg’ cards to complete it. You must collect one ‘2 Eggs’ card! If a recipe calls for ‘3 Cups of Flour’, there will be a (2) beside it, indicating you will need one ‘1 Cup of Flour’ card, and one ‘2 Cups of Flour’ card. Always use the largest measurements possible to fulfill each ingredient!

Setup:

1. Each player picks up one recipe card. Don’t let the other players see which recipe you have!

2. Each player, in turn, picks up the amount of cards stated on the top right corner of their recipe card from the deck of ingredient cards.

Play:

1. Start by sorting your ingredient cards. Keep the cards you need separate from the ones you don’t. Place the unneeded cards in a pile face-down on the table.

2. Each turn must start  by picking up an  ingredient card, either from the main deck or the top card on the discard pile. If you pick up a card you need, keep it in your hand. Otherwise, discard it (or a card from your pile on the table). It is then the next player’s turn.

3. Continue each turn in this fashion until a player has collected the necessary cards needed to complete their recipe. At this point, on their turn, they will lay their recipe card face up on the table and read through the ingredients while laying down the corresponding ingredient cards, to ensure all the right cards are there! (This player should still have a discard in their hand.)

4. The player will then pick up another recipe card (unless there are none left) and the amount of ingredient cards needed, as shown in the top right corner of the recipe card. Repeat step 1! Finish this turn by discarding.

5. Continue completing recipes until there are no more recipe cards to pick up. At this point, whoever has completed the most recipes wins!

If a player uses a wildcard to complete their recipe, keep track of what card the wild replaces. If a player has the card that the wildcard is replacing, they may take the wildcard in exchange for the correct card, on their turn.
